Workshops and Seminars

Dear Members,

Please find below details of our next three events including another social evening these ones are in London but we are planning to hold similar events in Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol later this year.

The role of neuroscience in learning

John Nichols’ seminar offers some fascinating insights into the role of neuroscience in education. He will share his research into the ways it affects both how students learn and how tutors can adjust their methods to help those students learn more effectively

Neuroscience also has implications for memory skills and motivation – as well as helping us to understand how and why people behave as they do.

John has many thousands of hours of private tuition experience, and his skills are much in demand from training organisations. This is a chance to access his knowledge and experience in a way that will have direct application to tutors’ everyday working environments, and is not to be missed.

Date: 22nd February 2017
Time: 13.00 Buffett followed by the seminar 14.00 to 16.00
Location: University of London, International Halls, Lansdowne Terrace, London,

Members Social Friday 24th February 2017 at the Antelope Pub, Eaton Terrace, Belgravia, London, SW1W 8EZ

TTA is both pleased and privileged to be able to offer members the chance to combine the opportunity for a social get together with the chance to hear at first-hand what it was like to be inside the Club Bataclan in Paris when it was attacked by terrorists a year ago.
Oliver Kemsley studied at Edinburgh before going to teach English in China for a year. After stints teaching in Spain and Italy, he moved to London to study a Masters in Environmental Technology at Imperial College, at which point he commenced tutoring to help fund his studies. Oliver will be talking about his four-hour ordeal inside the Bataclan building the night of the Paris attacks, and life afterwards. Your first drink will be complimentary, and light snacks will also be provided. It would be very helpful if we could get some idea of numbers, so please reply to clenton@thetutorsassociation.org.uk if you are intending to come.

The evening will be hosted by Adam Muckle, President of the Association

We are endorsing this course from the University of Worcester.

"Private and academic tutoring is increasingly in demand especially in a shifting educational landscape.

More and more parents are considering this option to help their children due to large class sizes at school, or when their children are not performing to their full ability.

Private tutoring is an excellent, flexible way to make some extra money to supplement your income and it also enhances your CV if you are looking for permanent work. It can also be very rewarding, as you will have enthusiastic students who really want to improve their performance in your subject."
