TTA’s DBS Check Support Services
Enhanced DBS Requirements
The safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults remains a top priority for The Tutors’ Association. Membership to The Tutors’ Association provides parents, schools and stakeholders significant reassurances that they are working with a trusted professional. Members are required to hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate issued within the last 12-months indicating their suitability for working with children and/or vulnerable adults, or subscribe to the DBS Update Service. If a prospective member does not have a valid DBS Certificate upon joining, we can help them obtain one. We strongly recommend that all members subscribe to the DBS Update Service.
How We Help Members with DBS
The process of obtaining an enhanced DBS check can be complex. We have simplified this process as much as possible for our members in the interests of promoting good safeguarding and child protection practices.
TTA's DBS Policy
Checking Existing Certificates
Members can verify their DBS Status by submitting an existing certificate and update service information if available. Existing members can complete this process from within the Member Platform. Verified members are shown on the Member Register.
Applying for an Enhanced DBS
We can support any Tutor with their new Enhanced DBS Check application. This service is free to members or available for £30 per applicant for non-members*. Existing members can complete this process from within the Member Platform.
Setting Up a DBS Platform
We can support Corporate Members with access to their own DBS Checking Platform so that they can administer their own DBS Checks with the support of TTA’s DBS Team. Existing members can set this up from within the Member Platform.
*Please note, If you are a member, we will process your application for FREE but the platform’s administration fee of £57 (DBS fee) will still be payable by the applicant. In addition, a Digital ID cost of £10.10 (digital identification verification) will be applied. Please choose “Member Access to DBS Services” below.
If you are a non-member, you will need to pay these fees (£57+£10.10) in addition to the TTA processing fee (£30) before making your application. Please choose “Non-Member DBS Applications” below.
Should you want to join TTA first, you can then apply for an Enhanced DBS without paying the admin fee.
DBS Update Service
We strongly encourage all TTA Members to sign up for the DBS Update Service. Registering with the DBS Update Service costs £13 per year and allows applicants to keep their DBS Certificates up to date.
The Tutors’ Association (TTA) takes safeguarding seriously, providing free daily DBS checks to all members, ensuring everyone holds an Enhanced DBS Check or is registered with the DBS Update Service. This commitment, highlighted in our May newsletter, underscores the importance of maintaining current and rigorous safety standards. Our recent investments in our DBS checking processes affirm our dedication to safeguarding, with clear requirements for membership and the potential revocation of membership for non-compliance, ensuring a secure environment for both educators and learners.
Existing Members, don’t forget to let TTA know once you are registered with the DBS Update Service. Members can submit your Update Service information to the DBS Team from the Member Platform.
