President’s Update – March ’24

President’s Message

Greetings from The Tutors’ Association and best wishes for a Happy Easter! Throughout March, TTA has continued to work intensively to support tutors and tuition providers across the UK and, increasingly, further afield. A highlight in March has been meeting a range of new and existing members at Regional Events in Oxford, Leeds and Edinburgh; if you’re based in the Midlands, make sure you register for free for the Birmingham Regional Event on the 25th of April. Additionally to this, the National Tutoring Awards applications are open and applications have started to come in already; I’d very much encourage all members to consider applying as entry is free and it is a fantastic opportunity to be recognised for the phenomenal work you do. Being shortlisted or winning an award is a great way to really cement your reputation and position in the sector – but don’t delay as applications close on the 14th of April!

Throughout March we’ve also continued to work hard on improving membership benefits with the launch of our new jobs board and exciting developments in CPD and safeguarding. We’re delighted to be welcoming our new Designated Safeguarding Lead, Holly Goodwin, who has already run our first ‘Safeguarding Essentials for Tutors’ webinar, packed with up-to-date guidance and training on the latest in safeguarding and safer recruitment policy and best practice. These sessions are completely free to members and are a brilliant way to update your knowledge of the latest developments in safeguarding, including the changes to government policy introduced in Autumn 2023. Our next Safeguarding Essentials session is planned for the 29th of April but, if you are interested in attending, please make sure you sign up soon as places are limited and the sessions are proving to be very popular.

TTA is increasingly supporting members who are interested in working overseas, whether you’re an individual tutor, an established tuition business or someone considering making the leap and taking on your first tutors to start a tuition business of your own. We are busy planning and preparing for the prospective trade mission to China later this year and we are also planning further engagement with partners in the Middle East, Oceania, North America and Africa.

Overall, TTA is a force for good in the tuition sector; we remain committed to supporting members to develop their own practice and help them to amplify the positive impact they can have on students in need of further support.
