Many tutors have been enjoying the good weather and a chance to have a well-earned break in July when things have got a little quieter. We have a new government, as I’m sure you have all noticed, and TTA has already written to ministers on two occasions to introduce ourselves and ensure that tutors are properly represented. We are pushing for mandatory Enhanced DBS checks for tutors but without additional regulatory hurdles, to ensure that minimum safeguarding requirements are in place throughout the sector, as well as representation for TTA within the Department for Business and Trade and the protection of pupil premium budgets in schools. We are also inviting government representatives to TTA’s 8th National Tutors’ Conference on the 24th of October – get your tickets here.
In July we have also launched a comprehensive tuition sector survey, which you can complete here. We are seeking to gather the most accurate and up-to-date data on the tuition sector in order to help us to better represent and support tutors and tuition businesses. We are working with XTX Markets on this and will discuss the possibility of future funded tuition programmes based on the data we receive. All responses will be anonymised and aggregated and any personally identifiable information will be treated in strict confidence.
In addition to this, we’ve announced the new venue for the National Tutoring Awards 2025, held on the 4th of July 2025 at the Royal Lancaster. You can now take advantage of our special pre-sale tickets to secure your place today! We’ve already had interest in some of the sponsorship opportunities, which you can read more about here. If you are interested in sponsoring this event then please take a look and let us know.
The Summer Sessions have been ongoing throughout July – another first for 2024 – and have proved to be incredibly popular, with dozens of attendees for each live event and a high level of interest in the recordings, available on TTA’s YouTube channel. Whatever it is you need to learn more about within the tuition sector, you’re almost certain to find a Summer Session that helps with it!
Very recently we have also finalised our first trade mission to China, in collaboration with the UK Department for Business and Trade and the China Britain Business Council. We have made many of the arrangements already and are anticipating a very successful market visit, offering introductions to a wide range of potential commercial partners that could help delegates unlock huge market opportunities.
At members’ request, we are also in the very early stages of planning a further trade mission to the Middle East (most likely the UAE and Saudi Arabia) in November 2025, to coincide with GESS Dubai 2025. We will circulate more details in due course but we know that there is a thriving market in the region for British educational expertise and tuition.
We continue to offer increasing benefits and support for members, and continue to improve how we do so. We have very recently finalised a partnership with LawHound and our officers and directors are actively exploring other ways to maximise value for members.
