Contributor Guidelines

Guidelines for Blog Contributors

The Tutors’ Association requests that contributed articles remain exclusive to our site for a calendar month.

Our blog caters for a diverse audience including members and non-members in the tuition sector, broader supplementary education sector and other stakeholders. This includes but is not limited to: individual tutors; tuition business leaders; government representatives, departments and agencies; school and other educational establishments; parents and carers of learners; learners; and, providers of educational products and services. Your blog contribution may appeal to all or anyone of these audiences.

We are particularly interested in articles that interest and provide value to individual, independent tutoring professionals; and, parents and/or schools.

Although desirable, the objective of our Blog is not based on keywords in order to optimise search engine visibility. We are looking for quality, informative and entertaining content that captures the attention, imagination and interest of our members and other stakeholders in the tuition and supplementary education sector.

The overriding principle goal of our blog and articles is that the content is useful and relevant.

Contributions might include but are not limited to: news, research, updates, opinions, thought-leadership, reviews, guidance, advice, tips or information.

We encourage contributors to develop their own voice, tone and style. Word count is not limited but content should be appropriately presented and the nature of the contribution should be obvious to the reader. For example, it should be clear when a statement, message or entire article is an opinion. Images and other media are invited so long as copyrights are confirmed by the contributor.

Historically, TTA has a reputation for being ‘formal’ due to the nature of our work with ‘official’ institutions. We are particularly keen to adjust this perception whilst maintaining the level of professionalism our sector deserves.

Spelling, punctuation and grammar should reflect the high standards expected from professional educationalists; however blog contributions  will be reviewed, edited and corrected upon submission. Final articles are always sent back to the contributor for their approval prior to publication.

Once a contributing author has submitted their idea for a blog, it will be reviewed by an appropriate representative of TTA (within 1 week). If accepted, full content will be requested and a proposed schedule for submission, editing and publication will be agreed. The contributor will be asked whether they want to allow, monitor and respond to comments and participate in community engagement in relation to their contribution.

Whether you intend to contribute a one-off article or become a regular contributor, all members are encouraged to recognise the value of their content and positive impact it can have on others. TTA is passionate about supporting the development of our members’ tutoring practice and businesses. We appreciate that contributing to a blog or article presents an opportunity to raise the profile of the contributor and we encourage this as a side-effect of valuable contributions to the tutoring community.

The overriding principle in this regard is that content offers mutual and balanced benefit to the author and reader.

Paid affiliate links and aggressive pitching within the content of the blog is prohibited but a link to the author’s own website in the byline/bio is completely acceptable. Soft references to the contributor’s products, services or other content are acceptable where it is balanced and appropriate within the content.

Every contributor is encouraged to submit a bio/byline to accompany their article, including: a suitable profile picture button, headline, short blurb and link to their website or social media profile.

Guidelines for Webinar Hosts

The Tutors’ Association requests that contributed articles remain exclusive to our site for a calendar month.

We facilitate webinars that interest, inform or entertain our diverse audience including members and non-members in the tuition sector, broader supplementary education sector and other stakeholders. This includes but is not limited to: individual tutors; tuition business leaders; government representatives, departments and agencies; school and other educational establishments; parents and carers of learners; learners; and, providers of educational products and services. Your proposed webinar may appeal to all or anyone of these audiences.

We are particularly interested in webinars that interest and provide value to professional tutors and tutoring business professionals. This might include but will not be limited to: subject knowledge; pedagogy or learning sciences; business development and management; legal, accounting and compliance; and, new ideas in the teaching and learning space.

The overriding principle goal of the webinars we facilitate is to interest, inform and entertain our audience.

We can facilitate your webinar in a number of ways. A senior TTA representative will always participate in your webinar in order to co-host, support technically or support participant engagement. Your webinar can be delivered on TTA platforms or your own if preferred.

In the process of organising your webinar, we will ask you questions about the proposed session including: a structural outline, opportunities for participation and learning objectives. One of the many advantages of the tutoring community is that it encourages different methodologies and approaches to learning and to that end, TTA have no preconceived notions or biases towards webinar content so long as it does not bring the profession into disrepute and upholds the minimum standards that we champion.

Once a webinar host submits their idea, it will be reviewed by an appropriate representative of TTA (within 1 week). If accepted, further discussion will be requested and scheduling will be arranged.

Whether you intend to contribute as a one-off or want to deliver regular webinars to our members, we would love to hear how your ideas can have a positive impact on others. TTA is passionate about supporting the development of our members’ tutoring practice and businesses. We appreciate that delivering a webinar presents an opportunity to raise the profile of the host and we encourage this as a side-effect of valuable contributions to the tutoring community.

The overriding principle in this regard is that content offers mutual and balanced benefit to the host and participants, who should leave the webinar having been informed, interested or entertained.

Aggressive pitching within the webinar is prohibited but a reference to the host’s own website, products and services are completely acceptable so long as it is balanced and appropriate within the content and overall message.
