President’s Update – September ’24

The Tutors’ Association has had a very strong start to the new 2024-25 academic year. we have been represented on BBC Breakfast discussing the importance of Enhanced DBS Checks as a minimum standard for tutors, to ensure that all students are appropriately safeguarded. In addition, we have seen a record-breaking surge in membership as TTA continues to advocate for robust standards in the tuition sector and advocate/ support its members.

At this time of year, we are especially looking forward to our National Tutors’ Conference on the 24th of October. This year will be our largest ever conference with dozens of speakers covering every aspect of the tuition sector. This will be followed on the 25th of October by our Tuition Leadership Day, offering a wealth of opportunities and insights to help you develop your business. If you haven’t booked your tickets already, there’s not long left – don’t miss out.

In September, TTA led its first-ever trade mission, to China. This has been a huge success, enabling many of our members to gain a unique and highly valuable insight into the huge, competitive and intriguing Chinese tuition market. The delegation was incredibly lucky to hear from some of the most successful tuition entrepreneurs in China and attend in two Department for Business and Trade receptions,  meeting a wide range of relevant contacts. We had the opportunity to hear directly from the founders of multi-million-pound tuition businesses who explained their successful business models to us, giving us a privileged insight into how they approached the Chinese market and succeeded at scale. Credit is due to the extraordinary group of members who joined the trade mission and who were incredible ambassadors for TTA and the tuition sector as well as to DBT and ClassIn for their efforts in supporting the mission.

TTA is moving from strength to strength and leading the way in the tuition sector globally, not only in the UK. We are enabling unprecedented levels of cooperation and mutual support amongst members and it’s a real pleasure to see the sector continue to grow and flourish.
